Chantelle shot a personal best five under par 66 on her way to Victory in todays final round of the bay of Plenty Open, Bay of plenty number one Zoe Brake had a huge lead going into the final round but was chased down by Chantelle who took the lead off her with 6 holes to play and never looked back, even when Zoe madea great birdie putt on the 15th Chantelle replied by holing her birdie putt. Zoe played her best golf and was beaten by a better player on the day.
Ruel Pedersen had the lead in the mens tournament for 63 holes but then got it back on the next hole by holing a 120 meter wedge shot for an eagle 2 on the par 4 tenth. but Ruels nerves got the better of him on the par 5 13th where he slipped up and never recovered.

Bay of PLenty Open Starts Tomorrow

The Bay of Plenty Open has a proud history over the past 20 years and tomorrow many of the country’s best amateurs will look to add their name to the coveted trophy.

On the silverware are many of the legends of New Zealand Golf. Names like Stephen Scahill, Phil Tataurangi, Mark Brown (twice), Gareth Paddison, Eddie Lee, James Nitties, Jae An, Josh Geary and last year Peter Spearman-Burn are champions of the event’s colourful history.
“Whakatane has long been regarded as one of the strongest par 70 courses in the country,” said Tournament Director and Bay of Plenty Golf Chief Executive Chris McAlpine.

“There is also special significance in the fact that Whakatane are hosting the Toro
Women's Interprovincial in December and Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty are sending all available squad members as a trial for later selection.”

The proud history of the Bay of Plenty Open looks set to continue this week at the
Whakatane Golf Club.
Both the Awairiki Academy of Sport and the Rotorua Boys High School Academy will be well repersented with Landyn Edwards,Ruel Pedersen, Doug Mathews, William Howard, William Brown, Luke Robinson, Chantelle Cassidy, Rotana Howard, Grace Senior and Tammy Kanokekarinta all in the field

The Bay of Plenty Golf Website will be running score updates for the 1st Tee field
on Sunday. http://www.bopgolf.co.nz/

Biggest Sporting Influence – My Dad & Tiger Woods
Memorable Sporting Moments – Playing Cape Kidnappers in the Rotorua Boys High school Order of Merit Event.
Winning the 2011 Super 8 golf Stableford title at the Poverty Bay Golf Course. Winning the 2010 Super 8 golf Stableford title at the Manawatu Golf Course.
Why do you play golf – It’s a very rewarding game that you only get out of it what you put into it and there is no greater satisfaction than holing a 30 foot putt or smashing a pure hit drive straight down the middle of the fairway with a little power fade.
I love the honesty, integrity, focus  and hard work ethic that the game installs in you.
Goals for the future – Win the New Zealand Under 15 Championship in August at the Omokoroa Golf Club, to be shooting in the seventies on a consistent basis by the end of this year.
To represent Northland at Golf

British Open Preview

With the British Summer looking more like the Bay of plenty winter, this weeks champion will have to be patient and above all be able to work with all the elements thrown at him. Wind, Rain, hard fast firm fairways and greens, this course will suit a player who has the ablity to play the high fade, not only to stop the ball on the greens but also on the fairways, any low drawing shot will be very hard to stop and playing from the fairway into these greens is a must if you want to make birdies.
My Picks to win - Lee Westwood
to be right up there - Ian Poulter, loves the challenging conditions and this Championship
                             - Rory Mcllory, U.S Open what more to say
                             - Graeme McDowell, grew playing at Royal Portrush, these conditions are nothing new to him
of the Americans - dont be supprised to see Phil Mickleson right up there, he has a terrible track record at the Open Championship, but this could be his time
Rest of the World - Adam Scott, Steve Williams on the bag and loads of talent, also a great player of the high fade.
